The show started with Steven DeAngelis interviewing Jack Victory as he
arrived at the building. New Jack came up and attacked him from behind,
wailing him in the nuts with a pole. He was then handcuffed and arrested by
security. They cut to the ring for Joey Styles doing the intro to start the show.
As he was previewing the show, Terry Funk came down through the crowd,
wearing a cap (like a cap and gown), to a huge pop. He came in the ring and
said he was the Living Legend and the professor of Funk You. He says he can
do whatever he wants and tells the "asshole" to give him the mic. He asked
Joey if he realized that he was not invited to be here tonight with the hardcore
fans? He said, "Funk you, and Funk you Paul E. Dangerously". And then said
"Funk you Tommy Dreamer you stinking pile of sh!t". He told the crowd that
Tommy came to him 6 years ago and said that his dad was a crackhead and
his mom was a whore, and then he needed a mentor. He said he did it. He
said that he was waiting for three weeks for Dreamer to call him. He said he
wanted to do a double flip off of the top rope for the fans. Tommy came out
and Funk said, "You piece of sh!t, I love you". Funk said he had a big ass and
a big ego. He said he should slap him now, like he slaps his own family.
Tommy tried to placate him and Funk said stay away. They argued as they
went to the back. Awesome angle to open the show. There were some technical difficulties early on with sounds from the headsets
bleeding over into the house mics. About a minute in, Terry Funk came out
again from the back. He attacked Steven DeAngelis and Andy Vineberg at
ringside. He took their searts and sat at ringside. Good work from the faces
early, with both guys looking great. Nova hit a nice twisting tope. Meanie
nailed the "People’s Legdrop". Funk got up on the apron and slapped
Meanie., Meanie nailed him and he took a bump on the table. Funk then, got
up and did a backdrop on himself through the table. My guess was to show he
was Extreme enough to be the mystery partner. Funk got up and busted the
table to bits and left through the crowd. During this time, the heels gained the
advantage, with Roadkill hitting a pretty splash off of the top on Nova, who
was more than halfway across the ring. Kill then missed his walk the ropes
elbow from the top, but Doring came in. Nova made his comeback with a
powerbomb elbow combo that he just debuted here. Meanie made the tag
and came in. Nova hit the frog splash and Meanie hit the Meaniesault, but
Roadkill broke the fall at two. The faces finally got the pin with the Blue Light
Special. Terry Funk came back again and killed both guys with piesces of the
table. He then attacked Nova. Paul E., Pee Wee Moore, and the Atlas guys
came out and Paul begged Funk to stop. Funk listened for a minute but then
attacked one of the Atlas guys so the other grabbed him and took him to the
back. Crowd chanted, "You got Funked up" at the security guy. HOT opener.
Next up was the FBI (Tracy Smothers, Little Guido, Tommy Rich, and new
member Ulf Herman). They were all there for Tracy to take on Tommy
Rogers, who was seconded by Chris Chetti. Rich did a great interview where
he ragged on the fans. Tommy Rogers came out and did a face interview. First
big spot was a Rogers dropkick from the top. He didn’t stand a chance
though because the FBI kept interfering, with Ulf hitting a nice diving
clothesline, Chetti then took him out, beating his but to the back. This left
Guido and Rich to help work over Rogers, which they did. They got a good
pop when they hit the paisan elbow. Five minutes, Rogers hit a Russian
backsweep and made a comeback. Tommy got a two when Tracy rolled
through a flying body press from the top. Guido was about to hit Rogers with
the flag but Rogers reversed it. Guido stopped and while they were mugging,
Rogers hit the Tomikaze for the pin in eight minutes. Afterwards, Smothers
and Guido were getting into it when Rich nailed Rogers with the pole. They
were working him over when Chetti came back and nailed Guido and Tracy
with a springboard double clothesline. He then hit Rich with the triple jump
moonsault. Ulf came back with Mabel, formerly of Men on a Mission. They
set a table up in the ring and were going to Chetti when Spike Dudley came
out. The big dudes beat on Spike but he came back as Mabel tried to come
off the top and put him through a table. Mabel went through it. Spike hit the
Acid Drop on Ulf, running off of Mabel. Then it was Mabel’s turn as Spike hit
the Drop on him, with Mabel landing on Ulf. Spike then sat on both of them
for the pin. After the match, Mabel held up the FBI shirt.
Next up it was time for Jerry Lynn vs. Lance Storm, with Tammy Lynn Bytch.
Of course, the special refs were Mikey Whipwreck and Tammy Lynn Sytch.
Sytch came out to the strippers theme, and took off her hose and put on socks
and sneakers. The camera angles had to satisfy any straight man or lesbian in
the crowd. Off camera, Tammy felt up Lance big time while Bytch got
steamed. Almost immediately, a "Show your tits" chant started. Sytch was the
ref in the ring while Mikey was on the floor. Tammy kept going to the mat,
giving the crowd ass shots, which they popped for. Mikey kept running up
behind her and looking up her dress. Funny stuff. Midway in, Bytch grabbed
Lynn’s leg and Storm missed a few highspots. Lynn then came back and is just
so good and fluid. Storm just seemed to have an off night though. In a way, it
really didn’t matter what they did though because the crowd was here to see
Sytch’s assets. Storm hit a big reverse kick but Tammy slow counted, and
smirked at him when she did it. Tammy fast counted for Lynn pin attempts.
Lynn got another two with a Curtain Call. Lynn dropkicked Lance to the floor
and then hit an incredible flying body attack from the top to the floor on Storm.
The crowd chanted "ECW". Both men were down when Sytch began
counting. She snapmared Bytch and took her clothes off. Mikey came in and
the short answer was he took out Sytch with a Whippersnapper and then
helped Lance win. The long answer would require me watching the tape again.
Then we cut to the broadcast position where Terry Funk did another great
interview where he said, incredulously, that he wanted to apologize and was
leaving the building. He said he was going home, forever. We have heard that
one before!
Tag title time, as Dudleys came out to take on Masato Tanaka and Balls
Mahoney, with Axl Rotten. Bubba cut an interview where he said that they
were the best scientific wrestlers around. Then, Joey Gertner did his usual
great spiel. The Duds were booed. Axl took the stick and told the ref to step
out of the way because the Louisiana State Athletic Commission said they
could not use chairs. He said ECW does not listen to commissions and did a
great interview. He said they were going to have a Bourbon Street Brawl, and
away they went. The Duds worked over Tanaka for the first five minutes
before he made the tag to Balls. Takana hit a big splash off of the back of
Balls. Balls went to the top and went for the big splash like he did at the 10/10
Arena show, but lost his footing. Bubba picked up the slack by hitting a big
splash over the top on all four guys which surspisingtly, no one really popped
for. Tanaka followed it with a big chair shot to the head and they did pop for
that. Tanaka was doing big elbow spot when Bubba pulled the ref in front.
Dick came in and took out Tanaka. Axl came in and made the save chairing
Dick twice. Stiff. Sign Guy hit Axl with his sign, knocking him down. Gertner
was hilarious doing a chair shot on Balls, which he didn’t sell. They did the
chair swinging spot with Balls and Tanaka getting pasted with them three
times. They came back but Jeff Jones, who came down, would not make the
three count. Axl pasted him with a nasty chairshot. The Duds hit 3 D on
Tanaka but only got a two. Axl handcuffed Dick to the ringpost. D-Von and
Bubba faced off and stiffly slapped each other in the face. They turned around
and got killed with chairshots by the faces, but they only got a two count. Balls
hit the Nutcracker on D-Von while Tanaka hit the Tornado DDT on Bubba,
but it was only for two again. The Duds managed to get double low blows on
the faces. Bubba hit a Tiger Bomb on Tanaka. D-Von killed Balls with a nasty
piledriver. The Dudes went to throw two tables into the ring when Bill Alfonso
came out to ringside. The ref went to put him away when Sabu and Rob Van
Dam came out and wasted the Duds through the tables. Jim Molineaux came
back in and made the count, new champions. The match started slowly and
could have gone to hell when Balls slipped from the top but instead they turned
it into a great match.
The mystery as to who would be Tommy Dreamer’s tag partner would
cleared up next as he came out to take on Justin Credible, with Nicole Bass,
Jason, and Chastity, and a bandaged Jack Victory, with Lance Wright. Shortly
after Tommy came out, Jake The Snake Roberts followed, to a nice pop from
the crowd. Dreamer largely got beat on for the first ten minutes, while Jake
waited for the tag. Chastity then got involved and Jake stomped her in the
crotch. Dreamer finally came back and made his tag to Jake and the crowd
chanted DDT. By this time Jason had replaced Victory. Rod Price and One
Man Gang attacked the faces. The fans chanted for New Jack and they got
him and Kronus, complete with a shopping cart full of weapons. Plunder.
Color. ECW! If you need a blow-by-blow, you just haven’t paying attention.
Pop of the night came when Jake hit the DDT on Bass. Jake followed with a
DDT on the ladder on Justin, and he and Tommy made the cover for the pin.
Then, Terry Funk showed us he really wasn’t leaving as he came out and
asked why he picked Jake Roberts, who was a piece of crap. Jake left. Funk
went nuts. Tommy said he would turn his back on him but would never hit him.
He turned and Funk laid him out. He drug him all around the ring and beat him
up. Before he left, Funk attacked Charlie the cameraman. For those asking
why they flew in Jake instead of using Funk in the slot, they wanted to do the
teacher vs. student angle, which I think we should probably see in January at
the next PPV.
Time for the main event as the Triple Threats did battle. Shane Douglas, Bam
Bam Bigelow, Chris Candido, and Francine came out first. Shane was wearing
a new robe. Shane came out and called Taz a bitch, a pussy, and a punk. He
said he was no champ. He called RVD a Franchise wannabe. He said Sabu
was nothing and didn’t even have a belt. He said that they have heard enough
about there being a new Triple Threat. He said there was only one, and it was
them. After Shane did the intros for his group, out came RVD, Sabu, and
Fonzie. Before they could get to the Dudleys from behind and attcked them.
Bubba threw RVD into the crowd, in a RUDE bump. Taz’s music played and
the lights went oit. Taz got a massive pop. He cleaned house until BBB ran in
and attacked. The Duds left. The fight was on. Sabu was wearing a
neckbrace, selling the angles where he was killed by 3-D, and also with Shane
taking him out. Early on, Van Dam was bleeding, apparently from his mouth or
nose. Wild action throughout. Candido put Taz through a table on the floor.
RVD was simply awesome in this match, doing amazing stuff (including a
somersault splash off of the top onto BBB who was WAY out in the crowd).
Finish saw Taz have Shane in a choke when Sabu did an Arabian facebuster
off the top, but hit Taz. Sabu covered Shane for the pin in 14 minutes. Taz got
up and piefaced Sabu. They faced off. RVD and Fonzie tried to break them
up, repeatedly. Finally, Taz left on his own.
Notes: Jack Victory blew his knee out during the match with Dreamer and
that was why Jason took his place. He was taken away in an ambulance. …
The early word in the back is that we will see Shane vs. Sabu at the next PPV.
… Mike Awesome was at the show. He said that his ankle is fine but both of
his knees need surgery. He said he will get it done next week. He is looking
about seven months of down time. … Axl Rotten attended the live Kiss
concert that was broadcast on Halloween night on the Fox Network. As an
aside, Axl is still waiting for his infection to clear before he can have surgery.
… There was a major debacle involving Jake Roberts before the show. He
was contacted to be the mystery partner during the week and agreed to the
shot. He had a previous booking on an indy show in St. Louis, which ECW
knew about, and the timing for him getting here was almost down to the
minute, as he had to work the afternoon show and then make it to the airport
to get to New Orleans. Well, he was three minutes short, as that was the
amount of time by which he missed his plane. Bob Ryder, who is a travel guru,
was asked by the company to do whatever it took to get Jake here. There
were no flights into New Orleans from St. Louis that would have gotten him
here in time for the PPV, so the only available option was to charter a jet, at
$1,500 an hour. Bob and Debbie Beaumont worked it out so that the plane,
which could luckily land on a private airfield near the UNO Arena, would
make it here by 8 p.m. (local time, or an hour into the show!). He made it. …
ECW debuted new belts at the show. They were made by J-Mar, the
preeminent belt maker. They were really hot, with the tag belts and new world
title looking really sharp. … Paul Heyman said right before the show went on
the air that at about an hour before the show started, due to the psychotic
weather in Texas and western Louisiana, their primary satellite provider went
down. Luckily, they had a back up provider in place and they actually sent up
two feeds for the show. … Frank Shamrock was at the show. … I think that
due to all of the events that led up to the show, Heyman decided to scrap the
dark matches. Who can blame him?
Dave Scherer gets credit for this play-by-play, once again
