As noted earlier this week, AEW pulled Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin from the upcoming WrestleCon event during WrestleMania 36 Week in the Tampa area. WrestleCon’s public booking spreadsheet notes that their appearances were canceled by AEW on February 12. While Allin and Guevara were pulled, several AEW stars are still scheduled to appear at the convention, including AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, AEW Women’s World Champion Nyla Rose, AEW World Tag Team Champion Kenny Omega, Kris Statlander, Jon Moxley, and Orange Cassidy.

In an update, WrestleCon officials were reportedly told by Pro Wrestling Tees, apparel producer for AEW, that they could no longer buy AEW merchandise prior to placing a large t-shirt order. WrestleCon officials were reportedly told that AEW didn’t want their merchandise sold in Tampa during the big weekend, specifically at WrestleCon. This was described as a business decision, and not anything personal towards WrestleCon.

The aforementioned AEW talents will be appearing for photos and autographs at WrestleCon, but no AEW wrestlers will be performing in the ring at any of the various WrestleCon events. WrestleCon officials were reportedly told that AEW didn’t want their talents wrestling at any of the many indie events that take place during WrestleMania 36 Week. Despite that rule, AEW is allowing some wrestlers to work Joey Janela’s “Spring Break 4” event, but only because of his relationship with AEW. While AEW is allowing some talents to work Janela’s annual event, they didn’t want a full-blown AEW show during that week.

As noted back in January, AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes was asked by a fan if AEW would be running a show during WrestleMania 36 Week. Cody said no because “piggybacking” off WWE’s big week “would just be lame.”

“No my friend. That’s theirs. Piggybacking would just be lame,” Cody tweeted. You can see his full tweet below.
