The main event of last night’s Impact Slammiversary 17 pay-per-view saw Sami Callihan defeat Tessa Blanchard after a brutal intergender match.
The match was done to put a spotlight on Blanchard as Impact officials see her as a big star, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio. The idea was that Blanchard was still put over with her strong performance, despite the loss. Impact officials reportedly want to make sure Blanchard isn’t rejected by the fans due to too much exposure, similar to Roman Reigns in WWE.
There was never a plan for Blanchard to win the match.
Tessa took to Twitter this morning and wrote the following tweet:
Disrupt everything they’re comfortable with. Take risks. Make history. Create change. pic.twitter.com/lqCXqLglUP
