Dave Meltzer went into great detail about the changes that have occurred to Ronda Rousey’s proposed Wrestlemania 35 match on today’s episode of “Wrestling Observer Radio”.
According to Meltzer, the original plan was that Charlotte would be the one to take on Rousey. Wrestlemania 34 was supposed to be the beginning of the push towards that as Rousey debuted to tremendous fan fare and Charlotte ended Asuka’s undefeated streak.
Once Becky and Charlotte ended up in such a heated rivalry on Smackdown, the plan for Wrestlemania 35 then shifted to Ronda Rousey taking on Natalya. However, when Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart passed away unexpectedly, plans for Natalya’s heel turn were scrapped.
Once Becky and Ronda at Survivor Series got scrapped due to Lynch’s concussion, the WWE had made the decision to go with Charlotte v Rousey at the Royal Rumble and Rousey v Lynch at Wrestlemania.
Finally, the Survivor Series match between Charlotte and Ronda went over so well that the WWE once again reversed course and started making plans for Rousey to take on both Becky and Charlotte at Wrestlemania 35. Ironically enough, the finish to the Charlotte v Ronda match at Survivor Series was the exact same finish that the WWE had in mind for Becky v Ronda.
As Meltzer describes, it’s been a whirlwind ride when it comes to the revolving door of potential Rousey opponents at Wrestlemania 35. Whereas the current television points to a one on one match between Rousey and Lynch and the current rumors point to Charlotte being inserted into the mix, it’s safe to say that nothing is yet set in stone.
