As previously reported, Chris Jericho dropped his IWGP Intercontinental Championship to Tetsuya Naito earlier today at Wrestle Kingdom 13. Many looked at the result as an indication that this match would be Jericho’s swan song with NJPW.
It appears that Jericho has other intentions in mind. He spoke with “Yahoo Japan” on wanting a shot at new heavyweight champ Hiroshi Tanahashi:
I just lost the [Intercontinental Championship] I took from Naito in June of last year. It’s a big mistake if you think that the time with me and New Japan Pro-Wrestling is over. I want to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight belt…Write it down. Chris Jericho will challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship! You will understand.
