Kota Ibushi Wins NJPW’s G1 Climax 29

Kota Ibushi is this year’s G1 Climax winner.

After a grueling tournament that began in early July from Dallas, Ibushi concluded his triumphant run with a victory over Bullet Club leader Jay White at today’s final from Budokan Hall. Despite an 0-2 start, the Golden Lover was able to rally together seven straight wins, including one over the current IWGP Heavyweight champion, Kazuchika Okada. This means that Ibushi will headline the Tokyo Dome in NJPW’s biggest show of the year, WrestleKingdom, where he’ll have a chance to become world champion.

A runner-up in last year’s G1, Ibushi announced earlier this year that he has signed a lifetime contract with NJPW, and plans on wrestling there until his final days. AEW superstar, and best friend to Ibushi Kenny Omega stated at a recent Q&A that winning the IWGP Heavyweight title has always been Ibushi’s dream.

Stay tuned.
