The first incarnation of the XFL was known for their wacky rules. The second go-around looks to be following in their footsteps.
During a speaking engagement at a sports business conference, XFL CEO Oliver Luck floated the idea of allowing the fans to tip players via Venmo for their performances.
Luck On The Fans Tipping The Players:
We even talked about this sort of crazy idea of should a fan be able to Venmo a player a little bit of extra cash, if the guy did well and had a great fourth quarter?
While this would undoubtedly allow the fans more access to the players, it also opens up several ethical dilemmas – mainly the potential for abuse from gamblers. Should this rule become a reality, it will be interesting to see what safeguards are put in place.
