This episode of NXT was a special show as it saw the in-ring debut of one individual who may just become a top name in the brand in the future. Yes, Japanese sensation KUSHIDA faced off against Kassius Ohno during this show. This is his first match outside of Japan in over a decade, so there was understandably a ton of intrigue heading into his debut before this show. Of course, that was not all that this week’s NXT show had in store. No women’s matches, but the NXT stars we all know and love were in action this week, so let’s get right into this show. NXT this week kicked off with a six-man tag team match.

Oney Lorcan, Danny Burch, & Humberto Carrillo vs. The Forgotten Sons

Lorcan and Burch continue to have issues with The Forgotten Sons. Leader Jaxson Ryker was able to defeat both Burch and Lorcan a couple of weeks ago. Ryker has been in action a few more times since then, but he wrestled alongside Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler on this show. 205 Live Superstar Humberto Carrillo was there to even the odds as a part of Lorcan and Burch’s team.

Lorcan and Cutler started the match off. Cutler dished out some boots as Lorcan went back at him with some chops. Lorcan sent Cutler out of the ring and uppercutted Blake outside as well. He executed a dive outside onto the men as well. This did not sit well with Jaxson Ryker.

Carrillo came in next and hit a standing moonsault on Cutler. He rolled outside and reassessed with the other Forgotten Sons for a bit. Blake came in next but could not keep up with Carrillo. He took Blake down, but Ryker was tagged in shortly afterwards. He began to dominate Carrillo until he left his men to finish his work for him. Blake and Cutler began tagging in and out while wearing down Carrillo.

Diving headbutt from Ryker onto Carrillo for a two-count. The crowd encouraged Carrillo to get back to his feet. He nearly surprised Ryker with a pin, but he wasn’t able to get the job done. However, he was able to make the tag to Burch after this. Burch ran into the corner and took out Blake and Ryker on the apron. Burch shoved down Cutler and locked him in a Crossface. Ryker ran back in next and hit some blows to the back of the head.

In comes Carrillo once again to hit some high-flying maneuvers. He dove onto the Forgotten Sons on the outside of the ring. As they recovered, Burch found himself surrounded by all members of the Forgotten Sons. He tried to fight them off, but the numbers proved to be too much for him. Blake threw Burch into the corner and Ryker did the same to Carrillo afterwards. After leaping off of the middle rope and hitting a knee strike, Blake was able to pin Burch.

Winners: The Forgotten Sons

Cathy Kelley interviewed Shayna Baszler outside of Full Sail University. She was flanked by Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, and was asked about her attack on Kairi Sane and Io Shirai weeks back. Kelley asked if she attacked them because Sane had a win over Baszler. The NXT Women’s Champion did not answer and instead swatted the microphone right out of Kelley’s hands.

Bianca Belair and Mia Yim had an altercation at the WWE Performance Center earlier this week. The two of them were bickering and nearly came to blows but PC coach Robbie Brookside stopped them just in time. They both want a shot at Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship. Belair and Yim will face each other on NXT next week.

Dominik Dijakovic vs. Mansoor

The NXT announcers explained that Mansoor was a passionate WWE fan growing up who also loved the video games. He had the unenviable task of taking on the unbeaten Dominik Dijakovic. Mansoor did get a chance to show off what he is capable of here, but the result was what most fans probably expected in the end.

He tried to hit the Cyclone Kick early and put away his opponent immediately just like he has done in the past. Mansoor did his homework though and ducked the kick. Although he was much smaller than Dijakovic, he took it to him early on with some kicks. He even hit a hurricanrana on the big man early on. However, Dijakovic later grabbed onto him and sent him flying outside of the ring.

Outside, Dijakovic grabbed his opponent and laid waste to him with shots against the barricades at ringside. Back in the ring, he continued to show what he is made of. He laid him out and hit an elbow on Mansoor from the second rope for a two-count. Dijakovic still did not let that stop him. He lifted Mansoor onto his shoulders. The smaller man did have fight left in him though. Dijakovic placed him in the corner of the ring ad he leapt onto him. He hit some more shots on Dijakovic and a kick to the chest. He hopped onto his knee and hit a dropkick on him for a two-count.

Up on the top rope, Mansoor went for an elbow drop, but Dijakovic caught him. He hit his Feast Your Eyes finisher, which was enough to help him get another win. After the match, he tossed Mansoor out of the ring and celebrated his victory all by himself.

Winner: Dominik Dijakovic

NXT North American Champion The Velveteen Dream came out on the stage on a sofa accompanied by some ladies. Dijakovic talked about his family migrating to America and the struggles that they went through weeks ago, which is why he wants a shot at Dream’s title. Dream called for some music and proceeded to sing his own version of the “Star Spangled Banner.” The lyrics appeared on the screen behind him, so the fans were able to sing along with him. Dream’s not much of a singer, but his point was understood: he warned Dijakovic to back off from him and his title.

Last week, NXT Champion Johnny Gargano defeated Roderick Strong. This was after The Undisputed Era tried to interfere in the match and help Strong win. A miscommunication led to Adam Cole superkicking Strong and costing him the win. This week, they cut a promo calling Gargano the luckiest man in NXT history. They promised that they will show Gargano that they are a cohesive unit next week. Cole said that they are moving past Strong “dropping the ball” last week. This caused Strong to interrupt his Undisputed Era comrade and walk out. Cole claimed that he was merely telling a joke, but Fish agreed that it was not the right time for that particular joke.

Kassius Ohno vs. KUSHIDA

Not only was this KUSHIDA’s first match in NXT, but it’s also Ohno’s first match back in several weeks. Ohno quit NXT after losing to Matt Riddle again months ago and has been wrestling in NXT UK ever since. However, the announcers explained that Ohno wanted another chance to dismantle NXT General Manager William Regal’s “shiny, new toy.” Thus, the in-ring veteran took on KUSHIDA here tonight.

Fans in attendance were delighted to see KUSHIDA compete for the first time in a WWE ring on this night. The bell rang and KUSHIDA stuck out his hand for a handshake. Ohno kicked his hand away, and the two then locked up. Ohno took KUSHIDA out early on with a scoop slam. Headlock next from Ohno, but KUSHIDA got out using his in-ring IQ. He met him with a headlock of his own. Both of them were trading mat-based maneuvers.

Ohno was upset that KUSHIDA upstaged him, so he played possum when he went for a standing moonsault. They were evenly-matched for the most part. Ohno event bent down on on knee and said that KUSHIDA was good. He held out his hand for a handshake, which KUSHIDA accepted. Of course, it was all a ruse, and NXT’s newest star was hit with a big boot.

Kassius Ohno began wearing his opponent down and placed him over the ring ropes. KUSHIDA hit an enzuigiri and got back into the match. He went for a Rondhouse Kick, and Ohno got him all the way up on his shoulders. He dropped him down and even appeared to break KUSHIDA’s nose in the process. Ohno told him that he didn’t belong here. KUSHIDA dropped Ohno and sent him into a turnbuckle. Hurricanrana again from KUSHIDA for a two-count.

Both of them hit some shots in the center of the ring. KUSHIDA got the better of the striking exchange, and forced Ohno onto one knee. After this, KUSHIDA grabbed Ohno’s arm and finally received his handshake. Back on his feet, Ohno hit a forearm on KUSHIDA as he attempted a backspring elbow. It was only enough for a two-count for Ohno though. Big boot from Ohno, who was met with a windup punch after bouncing off the ropes. KUSHIDA locked in a version of the Kimura Lock, which he calls the “Hoverboard Lock” to get a big submission win in hi NXT debut.

Winner: KUSHIDA

After the match was over, KUSHIDA celebrated his victory in the ring as the show went off the air for the evening.
